EducationI am a graduate of the University of Virginia's College of Arts and Sciences. I have a Bachelor's Degree in psychology, and have studied American Sign Language and Spanish extensively. I have also taken courses in early childhood education. I graduated with a 3.52 GPA.
I graduated from Albemarle High School, here in Charlottesville, in 2012 with an Advanced Studies Diploma and a 4.58 GPA.
I hope to go to graduate school in the future and obtain a Master's degree in social work.
ExperienceI have always loved helping people learn. One of my favorite feelings in the world is seeing the lightbulb go off in someone's head when they've grasped a new concept.
I have extensive experience working with all different kinds of families and all different ages of kids, in many different settings.
For over a year, I have co-taught an English class online, via videoconferencing, to a class of deaf Guatemalan middle school students. While we worked to teach our students English and American Sign Language, we in turn learned Guatemalan Sign Language. For the summer of 2015, I lived in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala for two months, studying Spanish and working to improve our online classes and the curriculum that we teach. Our students ranged from 14 years to 20 years.
For the summer of 2013, I coordinated the summer camp program for returning students at Bright Beginnings' Forest Lakes location. I worked full-time with a class of ten first and second graders to review their math, reading, and writing skills. My students ranged from 5 to 7 years.
I have been babysitting for ten years and nannying for three years, working with a wide range of different families.
I have completed extensive shadowing and observations in both elementary and middle school classrooms, all under teachers with very different teaching styles. I also have lots of experience helping out with homework, between my babysitting clients and my own three siblings!
I received a 5 on my AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP U.S. History, AP English Literature, and AP World History exams, and a 4 on my AP English Language and AP Government exams.
I scored a 2200 on my SAT test (690 Reading, 730 Math, 780 Writing), and a 720 on the U.S. History SAT subject test. I received a 680 on the Math II and the English Literature subject tests.
HobbiesI'm a UVA graduate, a caffeine addict, and a lover of all things crafty. I love spending time with my family and friends, as well as baking and reading classic literature. Some of my favorite things in the world are my morning cup of coffee, Mexican food, and football in October.
I work for the Department of Juvenile Justice, as a juvenile probation officer. I spend my tiny bit of free time volunteering at the Haven, a local homeless shelter here in Charlottesville, and cheering on the Hoos.
