Experience

I am a Charlottesville native and graduate of Albemarle County Public Schools (2002). I love working with children and I love teaching! I have 10 years experience working with youth of all ages and backgrounds. I have been an Adjunct Professor at Washington and Lee and Sweet Briar, teaching environmental studies and sustainable agriculture. I have experience creating curriculum and educational activities for specific programs, and do a lot of work teaching and developing curriculum for limited English speakers. Environmental Education: I have extensive experience teaching environmental related subject matter, at environmental education centers as well as incorporating programming into other after school programs. My expertise in this area ranges from ecology to marine biology to geology to wildlife to agricultural education. French experience: I took French for 7 years, middle school through college. In the summer of 2004, I was an Au Pair for a French family (3 children under 6) in France. From 2008-2011, I was an Peace Corps volunteer in the French-speaking country of Cameroon, using only French and another local language for all activities. Art experience: I took art classes throughout my middle, high school and college career and am able to give support in drawing and painting.

Hobbies

I am an artist, and love to fill free time with creative pursuits, from painting, to dancing, to sewing. I am working on illustrating and writing a few children's book. I am also an avid gardener and love all things "homesteading"--beekeeping, chickens, wood stoves, cold frames. I spend a good deal of time outside, running in the woods with my dog, hiking and camping. I also enjoy playing soccer and basketball and swimming. I am passionate about learning languages! While French is my strongest, I studied Arabic for 3 years in college, and learned Fulfulde in Cameroon. I am currently learning Spanish, and next up are Swahili and Nepali!
