Stacie T.
Private tutor in Charlottesville, VA
Education
Eigth-year graduate student in Philosophy at the University of Virginia, nearly finished with my PhD. MA in Philosophy from the University of Virginia, BA in Philosophy, Greek, and Latin from the University of Minnesota.
Experience
Ten years of university teaching experience. Many semesters as a Teaching Assistant in Greek, Philosophy, and Media Studies. Three semesters as a Primary Instructor in Philosophy. Fifteen years of tutoring in Greek, Latin, linguistics, English, and science. Numerous courses in English and linguistics in college. Extensive coursework (50+ credits) in biology, chemistry, and physics. Experience teaching students of all ages: elementary school, middle school, high school, undergraduate, graduate, and retirees. Extensive experience teaching in large classroom settings, small groups, one-on-one, and over video chat. For the latter, I have experience with computer and iPad technology that can make long-distance teaching feel very close to in-person teaching. Teaching is my passion in life! I'm headed towards a career in university teaching, but I adore teaching children as well. Seeing them develop through the years is a delight. One former student of five years (middle school through high school) recently graduated from Harvard after studying Greek there for four years. I currently teach Greek and Latin to a twelve-year-old student long distance - his family moved to another state after our first six months and none of us wanted the lessons to end. We've now been meeting twice weekly by video chat for several years.
