Melinda C.
Private tutor in Charlottesville, VA
Education
I am a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Virginia in the Department of Medicine/Infectious Diseases. I was the salutatorian of my graduating class from West Branch High School and earned a Bachelor of Science from Mount Union College where I double majored in Biology and Chemistry. I received my Ph.D. from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where I concentrated in Microbiology.
Experience
At Miami University I regularly taught laboratory courses and was the instructor for a course entitled Microorganisms and Human Disease, a course designed for non-majors. I have also home tutored students in Biology and Chemistry over the years. I enjoy teaching students and like to take a hands on approach when possible. The best way to learn, I believe, is by doing. So if I can, I like my students to actively be involved with their learning. I have been involved with study groups throughout college and graduate school and have held many study sessions for my students. I can work with small groups but enjoy working one on one with a student so that I can get to know them and determine the best way to instruct them. Science can be difficult and I would like to make that learning process a bit easier.
