HobbiesMy academic interests reside in using the writing process to examine ourselves, our culture, and our relationship with others and with nature, exploring how language and popular culture mediate our relationships with both the human and the nonhuman, how we learn about ourselves, our culture, and our communities through the writing process. In terms of writing, I teach authors to build their credibility while appealing to their audience in ways to bests invite readers from broad audiences into their discussion in a variety of situations, choosing the best strategies to achieve their overall purpose. I teach to write with a meaningful, legitimate purpose. I also teach with a laid back personality, seeking to take the passions and interests of my students to find that meaningful purpose for their writing and inquiry in literature. My personal hobbies include anything having to do with the outdoors and the environment (although I am very skeptical of mainstream environmentalism), environmental justice, and equality.
